About

We’re looking for energetic, confident team members to join us at UWE’s biggest day of the year! As an Event Steward, you’ll be the first face prospective students and their families see, welcoming them to campus and helping them navigate their Open Day with ease.

Arriving at university is a huge milestone – equal parts exciting and overwhelming – and you’ll play a key role in making the experience positive, memorable, and stress-free.

Roles and Responsibilities

As an Event Steward, you’ll be the friendly, visible face of UWE Open Day – supporting visitors, championing the university, and keeping everything running smoothly.

Typical duties may include:

  • Customer service – answering questions about the day, facilities, or transport with enthusiasm and clarity.
  • Crowd support & safety – ensuring safe, steady movement of people around entrances, lecture halls, and campus hubs.
  • Queue management – keeping queues flowing smoothly for popular talks, registration points, or catering areas.
  • Problem–solving – spotting and reporting issues early, assisting anyone in need, and staying calm under pressure.
  • Teamwork – working closely with Supervisors and fellow stewards to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience.
  • Visitor experience – ensuring every guest leaves with a smile, whether by offering reassurance to nervous new students, helping a family find their next stop, or simply being a warm and approachable presence.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous customer service, stewarding, or hospitality/event experience preferred
  • Enthusiastic, polite, approachable, and confident communicator
  • A loud, clear voice is helpful for managing groups or queues
  • Organised, reliable, and able to think on your feet
